THE Phoebus Quartet
The Phoebus Quartet was formed in October 2020 by original members Elaina Gable and Simran Mehta (violins), Yosef Chang (viola) and Peter O’Malley (cello). In February 2021, they became inaugural members of the CMC TWO program, a student mentoring program sponsored by the nonprofit organization Chamber Music Charleston. In the Fall of 2021, the Quartet welcomed Margie Moore.
All members of the Phoebus Quartet are students at the Charleston County School of the Arts. At SOA, they are members of the Sinfonietta and Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Christopher Selby. Each member has participated in the South Carolina All-State program and the Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestra. In the Summer of 2021, all four members participated in the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Burlington, Vermont.
The Phoebus Quartet has been selected as a 2021 “Piccolo Spoleto Rising Star,” participating in a June 2021 performance. In addition, the Quartet was selected to be one of eight participants of the 2021 University of South Carolina Chamber Music Day, receiving masterclasses from members of the Parker Quartet and the University of South Carolina faculty.
In the Fall of 2021, the Quartet participated in masterclasses with Daniel Ching of the Miro Quartet and Anthea Kreston, formerly of the Artemis Quartet. The Quartet also began performing weddings in the greater Charleston Area.
The Quartet is available for hire for private concerts, weddings and special events.
